Let’s talk detox

Yesterday I sat next to the first flows of water in No Thoroughfare Canyon with a friend, enjoying the peace. Spring’s arrival had melted all but the last remains of snow, reminding me that the last touches of winter were still present, but nearly past. I heard the cascading sheets of the waterfall and knew that as nature moves from cold, dark and brown into warm, light and green, so too are our bodies seeking growth and revitalization. One of the best ways I know to refresh and restore is to do a spring internal cleanse.

The concepts are simple and based on thousand of years of healing traditions, such as Ayurvedic Medicine from India, which has a well-developed process of cleansing and detoxification. The Christian Bible speaks of fasting, and there are references in ancient Egyptian texts supporting body renewal. I suggest 7-21 days, allowing time for a thorough but gentle process to improve your body, mind and consciousness. It is unlikely you will find a perfect time for cleansing, but choosing dates when you will be less busy than more, will set you up for the greatest success.

The cleanse begins by drinking plenty of fresh, clean water. I suggest a water filter on your tap, such as a countertop version.  Bottled water is often a fancy package for tap water, and therefore unreliable. Carry a stainless steel or glass bottle with you so that you are able to get the daily minimum recommended amount of half your body weight in ounces.
